Haliburton in the Spring, 2025
Acrylics: Confidence with Colours
May 6 – 30, 5-day workshop
Get comfortable with colour, learn how to choose, mix and modify your favourite colours with confidence. Starting with the primaries – red, yellow and blue – along with a few “mixers” you will practice using your chosen colours to produce your desired mood, from gentle and peaceful to bold and dramatic. Colour is personal and fun – practice giving them a voice.
Registration opens March 1, 2025
Acrylics: Creative Ways to Build Perspective
June 9 – 13, 5-day workshop
Bring Your Paintings to Life with Depth and Perspective. Landscapes and still life paintings have us instinctively thinking about distance, depth, and perspective. But a portrait may need to feel rounded, and abstracts may need “push and pull” to create excitement. This workshop goes beyond the usual approaches to perspective as we study the work of several contemporary artists, explore their techniques, and then apply their techniques to your own work.
Registration opens March 1

Grow your Art With Art Think Café
Many of us have been learning, painting, sharing, and teaching on-line for the past few months and years.
We have learned to value technology, but …..
Are you ready to get together "in real life" for classes?
Here is how it works:
Course materials will be provided on my website, and released on Thursday’s. This will be familiar to those who have participated in my classes in the past couple of years. This material will be provided in video format from this website.
The following week, participants will have two options:
attend an “in real life” studio session at Gerrard Art Space (GAS) on Monday:
Monday morning: 10:00 AM - 12:30, or
Monday afternoon: 1:00 - 3:30 PM
…. or ….
attend a ZOOM session on Tuesday at 5:00 PM.
Contact me if you want to talk about the classes
About the Classes:
Art Think Café offers a series of learning opportunities designed to guide emerging artists in finding their own path. All modules are experiential in nature and embolden participants to play and experiment, go exploring, while mastering core art theory. A “just do it!” approach is embodied throughout the series. The course material is divided into bite-size “chunks”. Each chunk or module is made up of four chapters, delivered to you over a 4-week period.
Course Fee: $140 for a 4-chapter module.
Each weekly chapter consists of:
- an introduction to an interesting contemporary artist, by video,
- a hands-on lesson and exercise, presented in a video, and
- a shared studio session for discussion, sharing, critique, and worktime.
The artist introduction is designed to inspire you, and the exercise encourages you to head into your studio to practice. The lesson and exercise will be available to you, via video, a few days before the studio session giving you time to watch, listen, read, research, and practice in preparation for the studio session.
The studio session will be offered both "in real life" at GAS or via ZOOM video conferencing (you choose): It is a time for painting, talking, and sharing the creative experience.
I encourage each participant to find and follow their own path and grow in their own personal direction. No two students will produce the same painting.
Take one module at a time, take as many or as few modules as you like. New modules are added regularly throughout the year. There is no long-term commitment.
I hope you find the learning experience to be to your liking and that you choose to continue your learning journey alongside your peers. I would like to be your guide.
Is this the right program for you?
This program is designed for enthusiastic beginners and experienced artists who are seeking new opportunities. All modules are experiential in nature and embolden participants to experiment and explore, while mastering core art theory. A “just do it!” approach is embedded throughout the series.
Are you ....
- interested in exploring a non-traditional art learning experience?
- willing to spend the time required to learn and practice core art theory? First you learn the rules… then you are free to break them if you like.
- ready to explore the art of other artists, both past and present? Artists conceal and reveal lessons in their work, and they have much to teach.
- ready to interact with and share your learning journey with your peers?
- ready to make your own mark as a contemporary artist?
- ready to grow your art to the next level?
My personal learning journey as an artist has been self-directed. Many inspirational teachers have guided me on my journey, and they along with an insatiable curiosity, have directed me as I travelled along many learning paths, some traditional and some that are far off the beaten path. My own journey continues to branch out and grow in complexity. New opportunities are everywhere, the learning never stops.
I invite you to come along with me, let’s explore together.
I would like to be your guide as you grow in your own chosen direction, and perhaps lead you into unexpected creative places! Exciting places.
