All original art is unique, one of a kind
As a person and artist, you are unique.
There is only one you.
Your processes,
how you handle your tools,
the stories you tell,
your life experience....
They are all uniquely you
In this module, we will study four artists who are fiercely unique – they have chosen a personal and unusual path, meandered along it in their singular, sometimes eccentric and outlandish way. Some bring international living experience into their work. Their results are fascinating.
Your work reflects your individual uniqueness. In this session we will focus on identifying, honouring and celebrating that which makes each of us and our art unique.
Chapter 1: Surrealism
Probing the mind’s conscious and unconscious states. This artist uses selective realism: for those who don’t want to see it all.
Chapter 2: Surface building
This artist uses more that 50 layers of paint to build up the sensual backgrounds to her work, a painstaking technique she developed in which each coat of acrylic paint is rubbed on to the canvas with a sponge and left to dry completely before the next is applied.
Chapter 3: Painter in gray
This artist is on a quest to make people appreciate the colour gray. We’ll step inside her (surprisingly colourful) exhibition.
Chapter 4: Stories from childhood
This artist’s subject matter is often autobiographical, drawing on memories and photographs – particularly of his childhood in Bangladesh. Rather than straight autobiography, he prefers to work with imagery that has open narratives.
