Grethe Jensen

About the Artist

Self with award

Grethe’s work includes people and faces, non-objective, and urban scenery. Her work is abstracted, rich in colour, and approached in the spirit of exploration and experimentation, often moody.

For fifteen years, Grethe worked at technology driven careers while the creative urges sprouted around the edges. In recent years, the sprouts have taken root and flourished, finally coming to full bloom.

She owes a great debt to the patient and creative instructors who have come into her life for their guidance and tireless efforts. Her work has been influenced by (the late) Peter Kolisnyk, John Leonard, D. D. Gadjanski, Steve Rose, Brian Smith, Kal Honey, and many more with whom she has studied at OCAD, the Haliburton School of Art, Markham Group of Artists, and at the Whitby Station Gallery.

Grethe has several artist group affiliations and shows regularly with these groups in both juried and non-juried shows. Her studio and kitchen are side by side, handily combining two of her passions – creating in the studio and creating in the kitchen. If you come for a studio tour you’re sure to sample some kitchen delights as well.

Grethe spent her early years in rural Ontario. She now lives and paints in Toronto.
